The Challenge
The MAIB website had become complex and difficult to navigate. Key information was buried, making it hard for users to find what they needed. Many visitors were accessing the site during stressful situations, yet the structure offered little guidance. Accessibility and readability issues further reduced clarity, limiting the site’s ability to serve as a trusted source of information for the Tasmanian community.
Our Solution
Walker Designs worked with MAIB to create a clearer, more intuitive website. Content was reorganised to separate key user journeys, navigation was simplified, and design streamlined to improve readability and confidence. The site was rebuilt to give MAIB full control over content, resources, and forms, providing a flexible, future-proof platform that supports both users and internal teams.
Established in 1974 under the Motor Accidents (Liabilities and Compensation) Act 1973, the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) is a Tasmanian Government Enterprise. MAIB administers the funding and payment of Tasmania’s compulsory third party motor accident insurance scheme, providing medical and income benefits on a no fault basis to people injured as a result of a motor accident, while enabling access to common law.
A clean, restrained visual design was adopted to prioritise clarity and content hierarchy. Accessibility was a key consideration throughout the design process:
The result is an interface that feels calm, trustworthy, and easy to navigate, particularly important for users engaging with insurance and accident-related information.
The website was built in Craft CMS 5, giving MAIB full control over content, page layouts, and ongoing updates without reliance on developers.
Forms and resources were intelligently structured within the CMS, allowing them to be:
This flexible system ensures the site can evolve alongside MAIB’s needs while maintaining consistency and usability.
The redesigned MAIB website delivers a significantly improved user experience, making essential information easier to find, read, and understand. Clear content separation, accessible design, and a flexible CMS now support both users and internal stakeholders. By simplifying navigation and prioritising accessibility, the website better serves the community while providing MAIB with a future proof platform for growth.
